Super Bowl Half Time Show 2020 Live : Shakira and Jennifer Lopez have promised to deliver a celebration of “diversity” at the Super Bowl half-time show. The pop stars will take to the stage at Florida’s Hard Rock Stadium this evening, as the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs vie to be crowned NFL champions.
They will become the first Latina women to perform at the Super Bowl half-time show since Gloria Estefan, who sang at the showpiece event in 1992 and 1999. The 13-minute show, which has been in production for more than a year, will feature a string of surprise artists and an on-field “audience” of around 800 people.
Dan Parise, a producer working with entertainment company Roc Nation, told Reuters: “There are so many aspects of it, the dancers, the lighting elements, the special effects. It’s like a big jigsaw puzzle.”
Shakira and Jennifer Lopez are expected to pay tribute to Kobe Bryant, the NFL legend killed in a helicopter crash last week.
In a press conference earlier this week, Shakira said: “I think we will all be remembering Kobe on Sunday. We’ll be celebrating life, and celebrating diversity in this country.”
She described the performance as a “palpable example of how anything is possible” and she and Lopez are “redefining paradigms about age, about race, about background.”
“It doesn’t really matter where you’re from, how old you are or where you come from, what matters is the message and what you have to say. We have a lot to say,” she added.
Jennifer Lopez and Shakira are performing during the Super Bowl LIV halftime show this year, which marks the first time in NFL history that two Latin female artists are set to headline. Both women are world-renowned artists, known for their Latin-pop music style of music and talented dance moves.
Kickoff for Super Bowl LIV is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EST, so Lopez and Shakira will take the stage shortly after the second quarter wraps up. The Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the San Francisco 49ers this year.
The 2020 performance will be the first time two Latin artists — and both Latin women — are headlining the halftime show, according to Billboard. Only one other Latin artist has headlined the show before in more than 53 years – Gloria Estefan performed twice, in 1992 and 1999.
Shakira and Lopez announced last year that they would be teaming up to perform during the 2020 halftime show, tagging each other in photos captioned, “This is happening. 02.02.20,” and “Get ready. 02.02.20.” Shakira also posted a photo of the two together, writing “It doesn’t get any bigger than this! So excited about getting on that #SuperBowlLIV #PepsiHalftime stage!”
Both pop superstars have been promoting the halftime show on their Instagram pages, posting pictures of the two together at press conferences, sporting Super Bowl and Pepsi memorabilia, and getting viewers amped up for the show. Lopez has even asked fans to send her song requests, while Shakira noted that she will also be celebrating her 43rd birthday during Sunday’s performance.
This year’s halftime collaboration with Lopez and Shakira marks the first lineup since Jay-Z and his entertainment company Roc Nation were brought on to co-produce the show.
